SRINAGAR, May 7: A man today made an unsuccessful attempt to end his life inside courtroom of Principal District and Sessions Judge Bandipora by cutting the veins of his left arm.
Mushtaq Ahmad Reshi, father of rape accused Rayees Ahmad Reshi from Nesbal Sumbal Bandipora tried to commit suicide in the courtroom of Principal District and Sessions Judge while proceedings of the case were going on in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The man was immediately shifted to Bandipora hospital where from he was referred to SKIMS Soura in a critical condition. Police has taken cognizance of the case and FIR No. 45/2019 under Section 309 RPC has been registered in police station Bandipora. “Further investigation has been taken up,” an official said.
His son, 23-year Rayees, is behind bars since one year and there is virtually no development in the case as the lady who accused the boy of rape has not turned up to record her statement. Father of accused said that the unnecessary delay in the case has denied justice to his son.
He attempted suicide after sliting his left arm with a blade to protest the delay in case trial.
The case titled State vs Rayees Ahmad Reshi in FIR No. 77/2018 under Sections 376, 366, 506, 384 and 420 RPC is registered at Sumbal police station. Rayees is lodged in Central Jail Srinagar.
