SAMBA, May 20: Apni Party provincial president, Jammu, and former Minister, Manjit Singh has directed the party leaders and workers to prepare for Panchayati Raj and Urban Local Body elections in district Samba.
Addressing a meeting of party workers at Ramgarh, the former Minister said that the elections for Panchayat Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies are likely to be held by the end of this year.
The meeting was organized by district president Samba Legal Cell, Sahil Bharti.
“In view of the proposed elections of PRI and ULB which are yet to be scheduled, the party leaders and workers should intensify their ground work and educate people about the agenda and policy of the party,” he said.
He also said that the people were fed-up with the performance of the Government in J&K.
“There is a general demand from both the regions to hold Assembly elections. However, the elections for legislative Assembly were not announced. The Government has not given heed to the growing concern of the people with regard to the restoration of Statehood, and holding of Assembly elections in J&K,” he said.
He, however, welcomed the step of announcing elections of the PRIs and ULBs that will strengthen the grass Root democracy in J&K.
“These elections provide an opportunity to the people to get their work done at the village and town / city levels. But the Assembly elections are directly linked to every region that affects the entire population. It holds a very important role with regard to the democratic institutions in Jammu and Kashmir which remains a pending demand that needs to be fulfilled without further delay,” he added.
He further said that the LG administration’s failure in handling the situation and protecting rights of the people.
“It was the Apni Party that came out at the time, when no other political party was ready to represent the distressed people following August 5, 2019. Party president Altaf Bukhari ensured protection to job and land while other traditional political parties were busy in ensuring their personal interests,” he said.
