LEH, Jan 12: In a thrilling women’s final of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2, Maryul Spamo defended their title with a spectacular 3-2 victory over Changla Lamos. The match, held at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh, saw captain Padma Chorol lead her team to a remarkable win with a stunning hat-trick, overturning a 0-2 deficit.
The game began with Changla Lamos taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the first period. Tsewang Chuskit opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a brilliant wrist shot, followed by a second goal in the 11th minute, assisted by Disket C Angmo. Despite several attempts from Maryul Spamo to close the gap, they struggled to convert chances into goals. Changla Lamos ended the period with a 2-0 advantage, though Sonam Angmo was penalized for foul play, which would later affect their momentum.
Period 2 saw Maryul Spamo make a fierce comeback. Captain Padma Chorol pulled one back in the 27th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1. The match intensified, with both teams playing aggressively. In the 35th minute, Padma struck again, levelling the score at 2-2, setting the stage for a thrilling third period.
As the final period unfolded, both teams pushed hard for a decisive goal. With the game nearing its end, Deachen Angmo of Changla Lamos was penalized for aggressive play, giving Spamo a numerical advantage. Padma Chorol rose to the occasion, scoring her third and final goal in the 54th minute, completing her hat-trick and securing a 3-2 victory for Maryul Spamo.
With this victory, Maryul Spamo retained their Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League women’s title, marking an unforgettable triumph in the league’s history. Padma Chorol, expressing her pride, dedicated the win to her team’s hard work and coach Mushtaq Ahmed Giri, while encouraging young girls in Ladakh to pursue their dreams. The league’s grand finale continues tomorrow with the men’s championship, where defending champions Kang Sings will face last year’s runners-up, Changthang Shans.
