RAJOURI, Feb 8:  The people from Darhal and adjoining areas today held strong protest demonstration and observed complete bandh in support of their demand of Degree College at Darhal Tehsil headquarters.
The people irrespective of their party affiliation, today assembled near Tehsil office complex  and started protest demonstration at around 10 am. Many local leaders including Iqbal Malik from Congress, Farooq Ganai from BJP, Shafi Malik from National Conference, Qadeer Malik from PDP, Karamat Malik from Congress and many others including social activists, retired Government employees, traders, youth  and students  were part of the joint protest programme.
They strongly criticized the State Government for ignoring Darhal Tehsil  and alleged that this area has been deliberately ignored as a part of some political conspiracy. They said there are about half a dozen feeding Higher Secondary Schools  and  the students of the area have to go to Rajouri or Thannamandi for studies. The town is about 24 kms away from Rajouri and students, especially the females face lot of hardships.
The block heads of this area also threatened to resign from their posts if the Government failed to fulfill the demand of the people of this area. They said that condition of the Rajouri- Darhal Road was also in bad shape  and the concerned agency has failed to initiate maintenance work.
Entire town remained closed today, students boycotted classes and traders shut their establishments. The movement of vehicles was also not allowed.  After taking out large protest march in the main market, the protesters then sat on day long dharna at main Chowk. They also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through Tehsildar Darhal.  After speeches by many local leaders and criticizing local MLA (Minister for CAPD),  they dispersed at around 3 pm.
