SRINAGAR: A meeting of the Medical Aid Trust (MAT) Committee was held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Finance, Navin K Choudhary, which sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 51.25 lakh in favour of 190 poor and deserving patients suffering from heart and kidney diseases besides other ailments.
Pertinently, MAT scheme is run under the aegis of Chief Minister’s Secretariat which considers and sanctions financial assistance to needy patients undergoing treatment in various hospitals within and outside the State.
Principal Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Samia Rashid, Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem ur Rehman, who are members of the Committee, also attended the meeting.
“The MAT appreciates the philanthropic gesture of a citizen who contributed Rs 20 lakh to the MAT fund recently and wished his name to be kept anonymous. MAT committee felt that this would inspire more individuals and organizations to donate generously towards the MAT fund. The Medical Aid Trust receives bulk of its funding in the shape of grants from the Government,” a statement of the Trust said.
