Jammu, Dec. 26: In collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF) the Hiranagar Border Run 2021 Half marathon was a time-based event organized by Mata Vaishno Devi Runners group (MVRG). In this event, Hari Lal DIG BSF was the chief guest. Mohan Lal Kaith SSP Traffic and Advocate Vijay Sharma, Chairman municipal committee Hiranagar were the guests of honor.
The aim of this marathon event was to inspire the youth of remote areas to run against drug abuse, as drug trafficking is much prevalent in border Areas and ruining the lives of our youth. With the message that drugs must be eradicated from our country, this social evil can be fought only once we stand together to fight this obstacle that has been ruining the future of the nation and immensely affects the youth of border villages,” the organisers said.
There were about 250 individuals who participated in the event, divided into three categories based on the distance: 21.1 km (male and female), 10 km (male and female), 5k (run for fun). The cash prizes for the 21.1 km category were Rs 5000, Rs3000, Rs2000 for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, respectively.
Similarly, for the 10 km category, the cash prizes were Rs 3000, Rs 2000-, Rs1000- sequentially. The 5k category was run for fun and open to all. The youngest star of the marathon was a 5-year-old toddler who was registered for the 5 km cataegory but ended up completing 10 km along with his parents. Since the marathon was open to all age groups, it was delightful to watch an ex-serviceman Captain Jagdish, 72 year old elderly, taking an active part in this initiative to launch a battle against drug abuse.
Team MVRG honored all the dignitaries for their gracious presence and appreciated the efforts of all the event partners for their support to make Hiranagar Border Run 2021 a great success. It is through the dedicated efforts of the founding members of Mata Vaishno Devi Runners Group, namely, Abhishek Gautam, Ravinder Koul, Jitender Sharma, Sandeep Sharma, Vishal Sharma, Advocate Jasbir Singh and Vishal Singh, that the event turned out to be such a huge success.
