JAMMU, Apr 27: Amid nationwide lockdown in wake of Coronavirus outbreak, adopting proper social distancing, Chander Mohan Gupta Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation, conducted extensive tour of Jammu City and took stock of the ongoing de-silting works of the various ‘Nallahs’ / deep drains at Shiv Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Gole Pully Talab Tillo, Kalka Nagar Udhyawalla of Ward Nos 29, 33, 40, 60 and 67 respectively.
He was accompanied by Suraj Parkash Padha, Chairman of Swatch Bharat Standing Committee; Surinder Chowdhary, Councillor of Ward No 29; Mohinder Kumar Bhagat, Councillor of Ward No 61; Sudhir Bali (ACR) In-charge Chief Transport Officer JMC and Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, Transport Officer JMC.
Gupta informed that keeping in view the coming rainy season, Jammu Municipal Corporation has already started the de-silting of all the major ‘Nallahs’ / deep drains well before lockdown so that all the ‘Nallahs’ flowing in city can be de-silted thoroughly and dirty water do not remain stagnant which becomes breeding place for mosquitoes to spread diseases.
“During rainy season water often overflows in the lanes and even enters in the houses of low lying areas of Shakti Nagar, Talab Tillo, Krishna Nagar, Janipur, Nanak Nagar and causes lot of damages to the human lives and property every year,” Gupta maintained.
He said, apart from this, Jammu Municipal Corporation has pressed into service its mechanized decontamination vehicles and special teams of workers, also hired vehicles from other departments like Agriculture / Horticulture, Fire & Emergency Services Department etc for proper fumigation, spraying and sanitization in all the wards including Red Zone Areas, Quarantine Centres, Hospitals and other places of public importance on daily basis.
“We have installed about 20 decontamination and sanitization tunnels in various locations so that the aim of preventing the spread of deadly Coronavirus is achieved successfully. I appeal to the general public to co-operate with Jammu Municipal Corporation, maintain proper social distancing, remain indoors and do not throw garbage on the roads, drains etc,” Mayor added.
Advising the people to keep their surroundings neat and clean and follow the guidelines of administration being issued time to time to break the chain of COVID-19, Gupta directed the transport section to deploy the labourers as well as JCB where ever required and remove the silt, garbage etc from ‘Nallahs’ on routine basis.
