JAMMU, Feb 22: MDU Rohtak, GNDU Amritsar, Jammu University and Punjab University Chandigarh sealed berth in the last four stage as semifinals position has been cleared in the All India Inter-University Korfball Championship, being organized by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here.
Earlier, in the first quarterfinal, MDU Rohtak defeated Punjabi University Patiala by four goals to two (4:2) in an easy contest, while in second quarterfinal, GNDU Amritsar thrashed Osmania University by eleven goal to two (11:2).
In another quarterfinal match, University of Jammu defeated SG Baba Amravati University by ten goals to three (10:3) to seal berth in the semifinals, while in the last quarterfinal, Punjab University Chandigarh drubbed University of Delhi by fourteen goals to seven (14:7) and entered last four stage.
Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu was the chief guest in today’s proceedings and was introduced with the players.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Prof Dhian S Bhau, Director, Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Manjeet Singh, general secretary, J&K Korfball Association, Ram Kumar, treasurer JKKA , Dr Brij Baloria, Romesh Sharma, Romesh Magotra, Jai Bharat, Sanjeev Jamwal, Nisha Kumar and Raj Kumar Bakshi.
The matches were officiated by Tarandeep Singh, Deepak Dutta, Amit, Ashok, Gagandeep Singh, Ashwani Sharma, Amandeep Singh, VP Sharma and Irfan Chowdhary.
