Medals, trophies distributed among archers

LEH, Dec 16: On the valedictory function of the State Level Inter District Archery Competition (SLIDAC) under 14 and 19, Boys and Girls, DC, Leh Simrandeep Singh who was the chief guest on the occasion gave away the medals and trophies to the winners and runners in the competition.
Simrandeep congratulated all the students participating in the competition and especially the students from Kargil district who have come all the way despite the cold weather to have the participation of their district in the competition.
Singh said that archery is played in very limited States in our country and Ladakh is one where archery is given great importance as a sport. “It would be a wastage of the talent of our students if they are not guided properly or given good facility to excel in archery as a full time profession,” added DC.
Simrandeep appreciated the emerging talent of Ladakhi students in different sporting events and urged the District Youth Services and Sport Officer to support students who excel in particular sport. He too assured to extend help at his level and expressed hope that one day Ladakhi students will represent Indian archery team in Asian, Commonwealth and Olympic games.
District Youth Services and Sport Officer, Abdul Rashid in his welcome speech gave a detail about the State Level Inter District Tournament and told that due to the weather constraints except for Kargil no other district from J&K could participate in the competition. The entire tournament was organised by District Youth Services and Sports Department, Leh.
A colourful cultural programme was also presented by school students and a demo of archery was exhibited by the participating archers.
