JAMMU, Sept 18: Media Cricket Club (MCC) Jammu sailed into the finals of Friendship Cup T20 Cricket tournament by defeating Sharika CC by 69 runs at MA Stadium, here today.
Sharika CC won the toss and elected to bowl first and this decision seems right as in form batsman Amit Kumar was caught out in third over off the bowling of Kanwalpreet Singh. But Vishal and Raghav steadied the innings of Media Cricket Club and both shared a valuable partnership of 61 runs before Raghav was out at his individual score of 25 runs.
Vishal played a sheer anchor role and scored a brilliant 50 and he along with Pawan gave finishing touches to the innings with a quick fire partnership of 75 runs in just 50 balls. MCC scored 154 runs in stipulated 20 overs wherein Vishal scored 66 runs and Pawan remained unbeaten on 23 runs. From the bowling side, Arvind Bhat took 2 wickets, while Rajeev Pandita and Kanwalpreet Singh shared 1 wicket each.
Chasing a good target of 155 runs in 20 overs to seal berth in finals, openers of Sharika CC started on an aggressive note. Anil Bushan played some delectable boundaries but he was caught by Rahul Khatri on the bowling of Rupesh. Kanwalpreet Singh too started on a blistering note and dispatched balls outside the boundary ropes many times.
Sharika CC seemed to be in the driving seat in the initial run chase as they were 40 runs in 4 overs. But an intelligent bowling change by Captain Vivek Suri of MCC by introducing Raghav paid dividends as he cleaned bowled danger looking Kanwalpreet and Arvind Bhat in consecutive deliveries. Sharika CC could not recover from that position and wickets kept on tumbling on regular intervals and they were all out for 85 runs in 14.2 overs. Kanwalpreet scored 22 runs and Ankur contributed 21.
From the bowling side, Rahul Khatri and Raghav shared 3 wickets each, while Vivek Suri, Rupesh and Ashish shared 1 wicket each. Raghav was declared as man of the match for his all round performance.
The tournament is being organised by Media Cricket Club Jammu in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council under My Youth My Pride campaign.
