Meenal brings laurels to State, wins Gold in Commonwealth C’ship

JAMMU, Aug 8: J&K player Meenal Gupta has brought laurels to the State by winning Individual Gold Medal in the recently concluded Commonwealth Chess Championship held at Sri Lanka. She won the Gold medal in Under-14 Girls category.
More than 500 players and officials from 11 Commonwealth countries participated in 8 different categories. It was a very tough competition as winner was not sure till the last round.
Meenal Gupta remained undefeated in the 9 round event.
Atul Kumar Gupta, President, All J&K Chess Association, Ashiq Ahmad Kolu, General Secretary and all the office bearers of the Association have congratulated Meenal Gupta for this historic achievement for J&K State.
Meenal Gupta was trained by Vivek Gupta for this big event. She added that it was due to very high-tech training by her coach. With very hard work for the last four years, she managed to win this medal, she added.
Earlier, Meenal had won Silver medal in National Schools Championship at New Delhi. She is the highest Fide rated women player of J&K.
