JAMMU, Sept 26: An enthralling mega cultural SVEEP event was held today at Central Park, Jammu University, aimed at encouraging voter participation for the upcoming October 1 elections in the district.
The event featured musical performances by popular singers Juhi Singh, Vanshika Jaral, and Punjabi artist Sangram Hanjra, who energized the crowd, particularly the youth, urging them to actively engage in the voting process. To further inspire voter turnout, a SVEEP election song was also released during the event.
Present at the event were General Observer Abhinav Chandra, District Election Officer (DEO) Sachin Kumar Vaishya, ADDC Sher Singh, ADC Shishir Gupta, SVEEP Nodal Officer Dr. Vikas Sharma, along with several other district officers.
Later, on the sidelines of the event, DEO Sachin Kumar Vaishya addressed a press conference where he emphasized the importance of casting votes and called on eligible voters to participate in large numbers, particularly first-time voters in the electoral process. He said a number of programs, including concerts, skits, lectures, and musical shows, are being organized in different parts of Jammu under the SVEEP program to raise awareness among voters so that the voting percentage can be increased.
“In the past few days, we have organized different events under the SVEEP program in schools, colleges, universities, villages, and urban areas, where voter awareness was spread through different modes,” the DC said, adding, “Yesterday, we also organized a SVEEP event at Bahu Plaza, and another program the day before at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. In the next few days, we will organize voter awareness programs in rural areas such as Suchetgarh.”
He mentioned that in the 2024 parliamentary elections, a 73% polling rate was registered in Jammu, and their aim is to increase it to 100%. “As Jammu is going to polls on October 1, I appeal to all eligible voters to cast their votes at their nearest polling stations as this is their democratic right.”
Replying to a question about low voter turnout in the posh areas of Jammu, Sachin Kumar Vaishya said that they have identified such localities and are raising awareness among voters by organizing various activities under the SVEEP program.
General Observer Abhinav Chandra highlighted the significance of the upcoming election and called upon everyone to participate.
