JAMMU, Mar 20: The two-day long Mega Youth Festival, Goonj 2025, concluded today at University of Jammu, showcasing an impressive display of student talent, creativity and cultural diversity.
The event was graced by Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, as the chief guest, while B.R. Sharma, State Election Commissioner, attended as the guest of honour and Abdul Majid Butt was the special guest.
Prof. Rai emphasized the importance of youth festivals in fostering creativity, cultural exchange and holistic development. He announced plans to expand the festival in the future, incorporating the university’s seven off-site campuses and culminating in a grand event at the main campus.
The results of cultural events at Goonj 2025 saw Ojasvi from GCW Parade winning first position in Elocution, Muskan Thakur from GCW Kathua securing second and Manmeet Kaur from Cluster University Jammu in third. Vanshika Rajput from GDC Bhagwati Nagar claimed first in Poster Making, followed by Aseesabjot Kaur from GCW Parade in second and Gurleen Kaur from GDC Bhagwati Nagar in third.
The Department of Journalism JU secured first in Short Film making, with GDC Doda in second and the Department of Political Science JU in third. Nirmal Kumar from IMFA topped the Light Vocal Solo, with Mukesh Kumar from Cluster University Jammu in second and Ankush from GDC Kathua in third.
Shafqat Hussain from the Department of Journalism JU won Self Composed Poetry, followed by Gursimar Kaur from GDC R.S. Pura in second and Ankush Singh from IMFA in third. The PG Integrated Team JU clinched first in Skit, CD & OE JU in second, and Udhampur Campus JU in third. The Department of Law JU triumphed in Folk Dance, while CD & OE JU came second and GDC Bhaderwah in third place.
In the sports events; Basketball (Men), the 1st place was secured by PG Deptt JU, 2nd – Baskar Degree College Udhampur and 3rd – GDC Kathua. In Volleyball (Men); 1st place secured by PG Deptt JU, 2nd – GDC Poonch, 3rd – GDC Udhampur. In Handball (Men), 1st position won by PG Deptt JU, 2nd – GDC Udhampur and 3rd – GDC Kathua. Kho-Kho (Women): 1st position won by PG Dept. JU, 2nd – GCW Udhampur and 3rd – GDC Ramnagar. Table Tennis (Women): 1st position clinched by PG Deptt JU, 2nd – GDC Ramnagar. Athletics (Men): 1st – GDC Marh, 2nd – GDC Rajouri and 3rd – GDC Khour. Athletics (Women): 1st – PG Deptt JU, 2nd – GCW Udhampur, 3rd – GDC Reasi. The overall championship in sports was clinched by the PG Department of Sports, University of Jammu.
