SRINAGAR, Mar 25: Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said that Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti destroyed the State to save her party by alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
“Today Mehbooba Mufti says that in 2016, she was forced to join hands with the BJP because she was afraid to lose her party. To save her party, the State was destroyed. Now what can we expect from her that she will not do the same mistake in the future. Politicians motivate people with their words and people believe them. Now, the politicians who asked for votes by telling lies and betrayed after that and destroyed the State, how can we expect today that they are telling truth”, he said.
Former Chief Minister said that he had warned against PDP’s alliance with BJP and offered them unconditional support. “I conveyed my message to the Mufti Mohammad Syed when they decided to alliance with BJP. I told him that this thing will not be good for the State. This is not the Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s BJP who started talks in the context of Kashmiriyat, Jhamooriyat and Insaniyat. They are the people who will destroy the State. If you want to form the Government, we will help you. There will be no demands from our side. We don’t want Ministry or any other thing but the only thing we want is do not make an alliance with the BJP. At that time Mufti Syed rejected our hand of friendship and said that NC and Congress have empty pockets and they don’t have anything to give this State”, he said.
Omar asked what PDP has achieved in last four years by its alliance with BJP. “Mufti Sayeed said that he has to bring back power projects from the Centre, relief for the flood affected people, employment for the un-employed youth, doctors for hospitals, teachers for the schools, revocation of AFSPA, removal of forces and make friendship between India and Pakistan. That is why I want to make an alliance with the BJP. Today after more than four years we are forced to ask what has achieved after making the alliance”, he asked.
“Now the crocodile tears we are seeing are not coming from heart but from mind. We did not see these tears in 2016, 2017 or 2018. These tears came right after BJP broke the alliance and Mehbooba Mufti wants to repay the cost of these tears with the votes”, he said.
Omar also hit out at Peoples Conference Chairman for sending a letter on Government formation to Governor to head a BJP Government and sabotage the takeover by Altaf Bukhari as Chief Minister of “PDP-Congress-NC” Government in the State, adding that “Sajad Lone now wants seats from Kashmir for BJP.”
Omar said that the BJP has a clear policy to revoke Article 35-A, and destroy the special status and identity of Jammu and Kashmir. “Will you support these BJP backed people?” Omar told the gathering.
He asked people to vote for those who will fight for the special status of J&K in Parliament, for their rights, for their identity and for their development.
Former bureaucrat Farooq Shah who recently joined the NC said that he gave up his chair for the betterment of his constituency (Gulmarg) and for the better future of the youth of his area.
Addressing a rally in Kunzer area of Tangmarg, Shah said the Gulmarg was once a strong forte of NC, but with time its local leaders were harassed and forced to switch sides.
Without naming anyone, Shah said the environment of fear was created in this area by the politicians. “People used to have sleepless nights and continuous fear. Now those days have gone. Those people will lose their deposits in the upcoming polls. People want change,” Shah said.
