Every frame went close where both the contenders made some good breaks.
With the first frame being crucial, Wattana, who is ranked 61, started with a break of 70. Mehta needed one snook on the last red. He got the foul and cleared to tie and won the re spotted black to win the first frame.

With a lead score of 3–1 before the break, Mehta registered his win with breaks of 86, 66 and a few 40+.
“I’m happy with the way I closed the match. At crucial times, I made some good frame winning clearances. Having played against Wattana before, this was a match I was looking forward to. My last encounter with him helped me play with ease,” said Mehta after the victory.
