Mendhar Rural Olympics commences

POONCH, Mar 28: Department of Youth Services and Sports, Poonch and Sarpanch Association, Mendhar organised three day Mendhar Rural Olympics with support from 37 RR unit and 143 Arty unit at Op Hill Stadium, Mendhar.
The event has been organised with an aim to bring the youth of Poonch and Rajouri districts together at one platform to display their sporting talent.
The event was declared open by Sarpanchs of tehsil Mendhar in presence of various eminent personalities both from civil and military.
“Mendhar Rural Olympics” is a unique step to revive the rural sports and traditions of this militancy affected area.
A total of 34 teams of Volleyball, 28 teams of Kabaddi, 41 teams of Tug of War, 37 village Panchayat teams of Bhini and 145 youths in Bukhdhar competition are taking part.
Today, eleven teams of volleyball including Pathanatir Club, Khan Club, Knight Club, Salwah, Khan Club, Manjakote, Shaheed Liyakat Club, Chauhan Club, GHSS, Harni, Manjari Club, St Convent Club, Klaru Club and St Fransis Convent II emerged winners and advanced to quarterfinal round.
Meanwhile, six teams namely Dhakki Club, Khan Club, Star Club, Fazlabad Club, Shaheed Liyakat Ali Club and Shudan Club emerged winners in Kabaddi event and entered into quarterfinal stage.
