MGCA registers 7 wkts win over GNCC in inaugural tie

JAMMU, June 19: Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy (MGCA) registered 7 wickets win over Gandhi Nagar Cricket Club (GNCC) in the inaugural tie of the 2015 edition of the prestigious Chevrolet Cricket Cup Inter Club Tournament, which commenced at KC Public School here today. The tournament is being sponsored by KC Motors Jammu in association with KC Sports Club.
Batting first GNCC scored 131 for 9 in their allotted overs. Bablu was the highest scorer with 39 off 32 balls while Rohit took 2 wickets.
In reply, MGCA chased down the target in just 10.5 overs for the loss of just 3 wickets. Surya scored a magnificent 56 off just 30 balls while Shubham Pundir scored 29 off 15 balls.
The tournament was declared open by Chaudhary Lal Singh, Minister for Health and Medical Education, who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Twenty leading Cricket Clubs of Jammu are taking part in the tournament. Based on T-20 format, the tournament is being played on round-robin and knock-out basis and will continue for 20 days. Each Club will play in a kit of distinct colour embossed with the logo and name of Chevrolet provided to them by KC Motors Jammu. A coupon of Rs 500 from Westside and a table watch will be presented to man of the match by KC Sports Club.
Speaking on the occasion, Chaudhary Lal Singh said that the tournament will offer platform to the cricketers to display their talent and to vie with each other in a healthy spirit of sportsmanship to emerge champions of the tournament.
Surya, who was declared the man of the match during the first match of the tournament, was presented with the Westside coupon and the watch by the Minister.
Later, Lal Singh visited KC Sports Club and was impressed with the world-class quality of the facilities available in the Club. He was accompanied by Arjun Chowdhary, Managing Director of the Club.
Minister hoped that the youth of Jammu and Kashmir would take full advantage of the facilities not only for personal fitness but also to find a place for themselves in the sporting arena at national and international levels.
