JAMMU, Aug 30: Union Ministry of Home Affairs Secretary (Border Mechanism) Sneh Lata and DG BSF DK Pathak today visited forward villages in RS Pura sector, met the BSF Commanders and local people to assess the ground situation and problems faced by the locals.
This was third visit of the DG BSF during the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan and second during last three days.
Official sources said Sneh Lata and Pathak visited Abdullian forward village in RS Pura and inter-acted with the BSF Commanders to assess ground situation on the International Border, where guns had fallen silent for past about a week now with no firing reported from either side in Arnia and RS Pura, the worst affected during the hostilities, or any other sector.
They also met the border people and inquired from them the problems faced by them during the firing and migration. The people raised their demands before the two senior officials of MHA and BSF including permanent shelter in the safer areas and construction of bunkers for them by the Government in the event of firing.
Sources said the MHA official assured the border villagers that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is fully aware of the problems of the border people and was constantly in touch with the BSF officials. She assured the people that Singh, who was scheduled to visit the borders on August 29, would now tour the forward areas after September 3.
The MHA officials and the DG BSF returned to New Delhi this afternoon and would brief the Union Home Minister of the border situation tomorrow including the decisions taken in yesterday’s flag meeting between BSF and Rangers at Octroi Post in Suchetgarh sector of RS Pura.
The people, who had migrated from forward areas of RS Pura and Arnia sectors in view of Pakistan shelling and firing, had returned to their houses yesterday.
