JAMMU, Dec 17: To commemorate the completion of 79 glorious years of dedicated service in the field of education, Model Institute of Education and Research (MIER) celebrated its Foundation Day with pomp and show, here today.
On this occasion, an impressive and well attended function was organized by the institute at its B.C. Road Campus.
The chief guest on the occasion was Er Kiran Wattal, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Other luminaries who graced the occasion were Dr Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER, Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER, Dr Adit Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta, joint Directors MIER and Gen. S K Sharma, Principal MIET.
The chief guest was accorded a warm reception by the Chairman, Director and other senior officers of the Institute. He was presented a guard of honour by the NCC cadets, scouts and guides of the institute. The head boy and the head girl of Model Academy presented a bouquet to the chief guest.
Thereafter, the chief guest paid rich homage to the Founders of MIER namely late Prof H L Gupta and Prof Shanti Gupta by laying floral wreaths at their portraits. He also unfurled the flag of the institute.
Chairman MIER and noted educationist Dr. Arun K. Gupta presented welcome address.
He said that the affiliation of Model Academy upto 10+2 level by the CBSE, New Delhi had opened up new vistas for students in Jammu city, while the grant of autonomous status to MIER College by the University of Jammu was a unique honour. He also referred to the academic alliance of MIET with University of Missouri,Kansas, USA which would enable students to pursue higher studies at concessional rates in US.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by the students of Humming Buds, both branches of Model Academy and MIER College of Education.
The chief guest, Mr Wattalin his address lauded the role of MIER in spreading quality education and for producing enlightened citizens equipped with the necessary skills to assume leadership role in all walks of life.
One minute silence was observed in the memory of the innocent children who were killed in the terrorist attack in Peshawar, Pakistan a day before.
Vote of thanks was presented by Dr Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER.
