MIER celebrates Women’s Equality Day

JAMMU, Sept 3: To mark the celebrations of Women’s Equality Day, Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies, MIER organized a discourse focusing on the writings of renowned Indian writer Munshi Prem Chand. The topic of the discourse was “Women as Portrayed in Munshi Prem Chand’s Novels”.
The resource person for the programme was Prof Reeta Jitendra, former Principal Government College for Women, Parade.
Dr Annie Koul, HoD B Ed welcomed the resource person and introduced her as an eminent social worker and an authority on gender issues.
All the faculty members of the college attended the programme.
At the beginning of the programme, the customary Wall Magazine based on the theme ‘Crime against Women’ was inaugurated by the resource person.
Prof Jitendra discussed some of famous stories such as ‘Godaan’ depicting strong women in characters such as “Suman” and “Dhania”,novel ‘Pooskiraat’ , ‘Gaban’and ‘Kafan’ with Characters such as “Nirmala”, “Jalpa”and “Zohra” etc. She depicted the contemporary society regarding women and their condition of life.
Later, in her remarks, Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER said that women have stood by their men in spite of all odds.
