JAMMU, Sept 5: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu organized the annual Sports Awards function at its campus here today to celebrate the achievements of its student athletes.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member J&K-UT Sports Council and Member Governing Council (Sports) was the chief guest on the occasion. Ranjeet Kalra expressed his admiration for late Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairperson, MIER Group of Institutions, acknowledging his visionary leadership that has elevated MIET to an autonomous multi-disciplinary institution. He also commended Prof Ankur Gupta, Director MIET, for fostering an environment that encourages student-athletes to actively participate in regional and national events.
There were 70 MIET students felicitated for their outstanding performance in various sports categories at the national, university and institution levels. Ritwik Mansotra (Silver medalist in India National Kickboxing Championship), Siddhant Raina (Bronze medalist in Fencing in Khelo India University Games) and Vidyut Salaria (Bronze medalist in Penchak Silat in Khelo India University Games) were duly recognized and rewarded with financial incentives. In addition to the above, 13 students, including Ashish Bhat (Cricket), Superb Jain (Chess), Uttkarsh Sharma (Weightlifting), Ritwik Mansotra and Sudhanshu Raina (Kickboxing), Narottam (Penchak Silat) Delvin Khokhar (Football), Kunal Sharma and Kamakshi Sharma (Wushu), Rahul Sharma (Taekwondo), and Varinpal Singh (Hockey), were also felicitated for their participation in Inter-University Games and representing the University of Jammu.
Sukomal Ganguly, Sports Officer MIET, presented the Annual Sports Report for the session 2022-23. Earlier, Prof. Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET, appreciated all the outstanding student athletes and announced the introduction of specialized sports scholarships for students.
Prof. Sahil Sawhney, General Manager Strategic Initiatives Apoorva Bhan, Training and Placement Officer, Faculty members from the Sports Committee, Shafalika Vijayal, Assistant Professor, CSE Department were among others present on this occasion.
