JAMMU, Apr 6: The second edition of “MIET Sports Meet” was held at the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) to encourage student athletes to compete at their highest level and to be good sportsmen.
The event, spanning several days, saw intense competition across a range of sports, culminating in the BBA Department clinching the title of Overall Champions. The coveted Athlete of the Year Award was bestowed upon Pranav Sharma from the B.Com Department, in recognition of his exceptional achievements in sports for the academic year 2023-24.
Prof Ankur Gupta, Director, MIET Jammu was the chief guest during a valedictory function. He alongside Prof. S.K. Sharma and Prof. Sahil Sawhney, awarded prizes to the winners and runners-up, celebrating their dedication and prowess. In his address, Prof. Gupta emphasized MIET’s commitment to not just providing quality education but also nurturing the sporting talents of its students, offering them ample opportunities to excel and grow.
Highlights from the meet included a thrilling victory by the CSE Department in the cricket summit clash against the BBA Department. The BBA-LLB Department dominated the basketball court, winning both the boys’ and girls’ titles, while in Badminton, Abhay (BBA-LLB) and Muskan Gupta (MBA) lifted the titles for boys and girls, respectively. Keshav Choudhary (ECE) reigned supreme in table tennis, and Naman Luthra (BBA) took the tennis title. Chess saw Raghav (CSE) and Bhumi (BBA) win in their respective categories, and the Civil Engineering Department emerged victorious in volleyball.
Notably, the track events brought exciting competition to the fore front. In the 100 meters girls sprint, Ayushi of the BBA Department took gold, with Kamakshi of the CSE Department and Khushi of the BBA-LLB Department winning silver and bronze, respectively. The boys’ 100 meters sprint saw Heemal Gupta of the Civil Engineering Department, Pranav Sharma of the B.Com. Department and Abhimanyu Jamwal of the CSE Department clinched gold, silver and bronze. The 400 meters races were no less competitive, with Aditya of the BBA Department, Raghav of the CSE Department, and Ansh of the CSE Department securing the top three positions.
The statement said 2nd Edition of MIET Sports Meet 2024 reflects the institute’s vibrant campus life and its endeavour to foster holistic development in its students through sports. The entire event was held under the expert supervision of Sukomal Ganguly, Sports Officer, MIET and Sports committee.
