MIET organizes lecture on ‘Innovation for Societal Progress’

JAMMU, Nov 6: The Institute Innovation Council (IIC) at Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) today organized an invited lecture on Innovation for Societal Progress.
Amit Sharma, Special Secretary Transport Depar-tment, was the resource person on the occasion. Sharma, who has played an instrumental role in leading and implementing several e-governance projects including Electrical Buses, E-Rickshaws in Jammu and Kashmir, spoke on length about several innovative practices adopted by the Transport Department and its impact on the society during the last couple of years.
Sharma gave a broad overview of the innovation ecosystem prevailing in J&K and urged the students to contribute towards the growth of the region by taking lead in the special projects like Smart City etc. He further empathized on the adoption of eco-friendly measures in the daily life like usage of bicycles, car-pooling and plantation of trees to counter the threat of pollution imposed by industrialization and increasing traffic. He felt that India presented fantastic opportunities for innovation and that engineering students must take up projects to address the myriad challenges to improve the quality of life.
Amit Sharma was also shown some innovative projects being undertaken by the students and faculty at MIET. He lauded the efforts of the institution in creating a prototype of a low cost electric-rickshaw and appreciated the vision of the leadership team in developing an innovation culture in the institution by setting up of Incubation Center and Center for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CRIE) at MIET.
