Major tragedy averted, 2 IEDs recovered

Srinagar, Nov 25: A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in a shootout in South Kashmir’s district of Pulwama today while an Over Ground Worker (OGW) militant module was busted in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today even as major tragedy was averted in Anantnag district when powerful IEDs were recovered and defused.
A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in a brief shoot out at Pacchad village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir this evening. Sources said that Army had laid an ambush when militants came in a TATA mobile.

The Army challenged them leading to a brief shoot out in which one militant was killed. Two militants fied from the spot and took shelter in a house in an orchard. Heavy firing was going on and more troops have been rushed to the spot. Cordon has been tightened.
And security forces including 52-RR of Army, 53 batallion of CRPF and Baramulla police today arrested one Over Ground Worker of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) namely Omar and recovered a grenade from his possession.
A security official said that the grenade was handed over to him by one Basit and he was asked to throw it on the recruitment rally of the Army near Baramulla Rail-way Station to cause maximum casualties.
The officer said that raids were conducted in Sopore area of Baramulla district by 22 RR, 32 RR of Army, Sopore police and CRPF and his four associates were arrested and one pistol was recovered from them. They have been identified as Basit, Saqlain Mushtaq, Baber and Jehangir.
They were brought to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Baramulla where they were being questioned. Security forces have been put on alert for carrying out operations on the leads to be provided by the arrested OGWs.
The officer said that these five were tasked by the LeT to carry out grenade attacks on the security forces and enforce strike in Baramulla district by trageting shopkeepers.
And in the meantime, security forces his evening averted a major tragedy when they recovered two IEDs that were planted under the bridge at Kagas Gund, Dooru in district Anantnag.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Altaf Khan said that two IEDs were planted under the bridge. While one was kept in a pressure cooker, another was concealed in a pipe. He said that they could have caused huge damage as they were very powerful weighing 12 kilogramme each. A Bomb Disposal Squad was later sent to the spot and both the IEDs were detonated.
Mir, Hakeem released; put under house arrest
Two former legislators were released from Sub-Jail in Srinagar and two others who were under house arrest since August this year were released today.
Two former legislators Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and Mohammad Ashraf Mir, were detained in August this year ahead of abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A and dividing Jammu and Kashmir into UT of J&K and Ladakh.
These two politicians along with dozens of others were lodged at Centaur Hotel Srinagar soon after they were arrested in August. Few of them were released from the Centaur Hotel over a period of time while 33 were last week shifted to MLAs’ hostel Sub-Jail in Srinagar. Today Mir and Hakeem were released and shifted to their residences and kept under house arrest. They have been asked not to venture out of their houses.
Two other politicians and former Ministers Ghulam Hassan Mir and Mohammad Dilawar Mir who were under house arrest since early August this year were let off today. They were under house arrest and not allowed to move out of their houses. However, visitors were allowed to meet them.
