SRINAGAR, Mar 24: A group of militants fired at an Army patrol this evening in South Kashmir’s Tral area, prompting the security forces to launch an operation against the militants responsible for the attack.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police South Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that a group of militants this evening fired at an Army patrol party in village Dadsar Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. “Army fired back, however, there was no causality from either side”, he said.
The DIG said that a police party and more Army personnel rushed to the area and village has been cordoned off to nab the militants responsible for the attack. “Militants left behind one pouch, one pistol, magazines and a bag that was recovered by security forces during searches”, he added.
Sources said that 42 and 3 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) of counter insurgence Victor Force and Special Group of Police (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police laid a cordon around Dadsara village of Tral. “These militants who attacked the Army patrol were 2-3 in number and might have fled from the village after firing at the Army patrol party”, sources added.
The cordon around the village has been tightened as security forces want to trap the militants in the village. “The house to house searches of the village would be conducted in the morning”, sources added.
Tral, of late, has become a militant strong hold which has a sizeable presence of Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad militants.
Last year in a deadly attack militants killed 4 army personnel in Bichoo village of Tral and security forces later gunned down one of the militants who was responsible for the killing of 4 Army men.
Security forces during past one year have launched massive operations in Tral area against the militants.
