SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Militants today released three cops and relatives of eight police men who were abducted last night from South Kashmir soon after police released father of Hizbul Mujahideen operational commander Riyaz Naikoo and relatives of militants.
Police today released Naikoo’s father, Asadullah Naikoo who was arrested in nocturnal raid three days ago. “We have released him after some questioning,” police said.
Asadullah and five others were detained by the police during night raids in several areas of Awantipora on Wednesday. The arrested included brother and father of another Hizbul Mujahideen militant Latief Ahmad Dar of Dogripora, Awantipora.
Soon after the release of Naikoo’s father and others, militants let off policemen and an SPO besides kin of 10 other cops.
Those released by militants include Irfan Gulzar of Rahomo Pulwama, a Sub-Inspector of police, Javeed Ahmad Dar, who is SPO at DPL Pulwama, constable Shabir Ahmad Zargar of Kangan, Pulwama, Adnan Ashraf Shah of Shopian who is nephew of DySP, Faizan Bashir Makroo of Kharpora Arwani, whose two uncles are in police, Zubair Ahmad Bhat of Arwani, whose two brothers are working in police, Ghulam Mohd Dar of Kangan Pulwama, whose two sons are in police, Arif Hussain Shanker of Arwani whose brother is working in police, Asif Rafiq son of a policeman, Nasir Ahmad, also son of a policeman and Yasir Arfat Bhat son of Sub-Inspector of Police of Wathoo Shopian.
The militants also released separate videos of all the 11 persons in which they are appealing Director General of Police S P Vaid not to harass families of the militants. “Otherwise provide security to us,” Irfan Gulzar, a Sub-Inspector with police, is heard urging the DGP. Others similar messages were released on the social media by militants.
However, a paramilitary CRPF man’s son was abducted in Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district this evening soon after the release of cops and their relatives. Militants this evening abducted Shariq Ahmad Bhat son of a CRPF man Farooq Ahmad of Zirpara, Bijbehara in district Anantnag.
And three Special Police Officers (SPOs) have left their jobs and returned home in South Kashmir’s Midoora Tral, Qazigund and Shopian areas today.
SPO Bilal Ahmad Kumar, resident of Midoora Tral resigned today. He announced his disassociation from police during Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Midoora ,Tral in Pulwama district. Last night militants ransacked his house. However, Bilal was not present at home when militants barged into his house.
Another SPO Faisal Ahmad Shah son of late Abdul Rashid Shah from Panzath Qazigund also resigned today. He announced his disassociation from Police during Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid Nagbal, Panzath in Qazigund. His father ASI Abdul Rashid Shah was shot dead by militants at Mahendi Kadal Anantnag a year ago.
The SPO Ajmal Amin of Sundoo Shirmal in Shopian district of South Kashmir resigned today. He handed over his resignation letter to SSP Shopian today.
And a youth was injured after he was beaten up by a group of youth in Muniwar area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Identified as Yawar Ahmad Dar, son of Khurshid Ahmad Dar, a resident of Muniwar, he is son of an Army man.
