JAMMU, Sept 26: Mini Bus (407 TATA) Workers’ Union will observe one-day token strike on September 30 in support of their demand for enhancement in passenger fares of all types of commercial vehicles. This was decided by the Union members unanimously in a meeting held here today under the chairmanship of union president, Jagatar Singh. Addressing the meeting, Jagatar Singh, stated that Government has not yet considered their demand of 40% enhancement of fare charges on the basis of steep hike in petrol and diesel prices and other essential commodities. He urged the State Government for issuance of orders for hike in passenger fares upto 40% with immediate effect, as he alleged that the transporters are facing heavy losses due to hike in petrol and diesel prices. If Government does not act favourly, the Union along with other co-unions will go on strike on September 30, 2013 due to which about 70,000 commercial vehicles will come to a halt.
