Minister, VC SRTC, others call on Governor

SRINAGAR, June 15: Asiea Naqash, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Social Welfare, Health & Medical Education, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here.
Naqash briefed the Governor about the functioning of the departments under her charge and the steps being taken by the Urban Development Department for improving basic infrastructure facilities in the cities and towns of the State and the to-date implementation status of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes in the departments under her charge. She also informed the Governor about the important elements of the Srinagar Master Plan and the steps underway for ensuring better healthcare facilities in the State.
Governor advised Naqash to ensure effective implementation of steps to secure decongestion in the cities, removal of encroachments and strict adherence to building by-laws for maintaining a satisfactory environment in the towns and cities. Governor observed that unless the Master Plans and Building Bye-Laws were not strictly enforced the natural beauty of the Valley has the risk of being wiped out in the coming years.
Haji Parvez Ahmed, Vice-Chairman, J&K State Road Transport Corporation also met Governor and briefed him about the steps being taken for providing efficient transport services to the commuters both within and outside the State and to make the transport system convenient for the public, tourists, trade and industry and all other users. He informed that JKSRTC had recently revived the City Bus Services and also introduced the Ladies Special Services and Evening Services in cities of Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor observed that JKSRTC must be reinvigorated to play its envisaged role of providing efficient and reliable transportation facilities at reasonable cost to the people of the State.
Meanwhile a delegation of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Committee (FAAMC) and All India Religious Leaders Association (AIRLA), led by Maulana Peer Syed Shabbir Naqshbandi, met Governor and informed him about the month long 27th International Quranic and Spiritual Campaign organised by FAAMC and AIRLA, nationwide, for advancing universal brotherhood, creating awareness against terrorism, mobilizing public opinion for the cause of national unity and patriotism and conveying the message of Holy Quran for global peace. As part of this spiritual campaign the delegation had organised a series of programs at Srinagar.
Governor appreciated the efforts of FAAMC and AIRLA to promote peace and brotherhood and urged them to continue their endeavours on a sustained basis.
Dr. Gulshan Sharma, Director General, International Chamber for Service Industry (ICSI) also met Governor and apprised him about the initiatives taken by ICSI for commencing a pilot project to provide training and overseas employment opportunities in the service sector to qualified youth from the Valley.
Appreciating Dr. Sharma’s efforts in helping the Valley youth to enhance their job prospects the Governor directed his office to arrange for the DG, ICSI, to meet and brief the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister who would take further action in the matter.
