JAMMU, Jan 18: JKNPP Chairman and former Minister Harsh Dev Singh today alleged that the mandated leaders, particularly of Jammu region, were shamelessly using the Legislative Assembly for settling their personal scores and promoting their vested personal interests, rather than espousing the cause of the common man and other aggrieved sections of society in the August House.
He said that melodramatic sequence of events in the Assembly in the past as portrayed through the media, revealed the members of Legislative Assembly joining hands irrespective of their political affiliations for enhancement of their perks, allowances, privileges and their protocol. He regretted that while the educated unemployed and under employed youth were languishing on the roads, the mandated leaders were availing one bonanza after the other at tax payers’ expense and in complete disregard for the sufferings of the common man.
The JKNPP leader was addressing the media on the 4th consecutive day of 24×7 relay hunger strike launched by his party to highlight the failures of Government and the discrimination against Jammu region and its youth during the present regime.
Referring to the ugly episode in the Assembly yesterday wherein the question of protocol became the bone of contention between the members of the ruling party, Singh said that such incidents only lowered the dignity of members besides adversely impacting upon the credibility of the most sacrosanct institution of democracy. “Even earlier the members were seen seeking more privileges and perks besides additional PAs and PROs deliriously oblivious of the hefty hikes effected by them in their salaries and allowances and quite unmindful of the woes and miseries of the unemployed youth and other lower rung employees of the State,” he added.
Seeking a fair deal for Jammu, Harsh Dev Singh called for early settlement of the issues of contractual employees besides revocation of SRO-202 and amendment of SRO-520 so as to confer the full benefits of regularization upon the daily rated and casual workers of various Government department.
Balwant Singh Mankotia, JKNPP president, also spoke on the occasion and said that public resentment against the Government was brewing with each passing day.
The gathering was also addressed by Public Opinion Forum Chairman, Parveen Sharma, who visited the venue of hunger strike and assured all out support for the movement launched by the party.
