JAMMU, Feb 21: The National Youth Policy-2014 was launched here today by Minister for Tourism G A Mir and Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla at a function organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan at Government Polytechnic Institute Jammu.
While addressing the gathering, Mr Mir stressed that the National Youth Policy -2014 envisages empowering youth to achieve their full potential, and through them enable India to find its rightful place in the community of nations. He said that this ambitious policy ascertains five well-defined objectives and 11 priority areas .
He said that there will be focused attention on youth development and empowerment through this policy .
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla said that the Central Government has given upmost priority to the development of an educated and healthy young population, who are not only economically productive, but are also socially responsible citizens contributing to the nation-building. He said that the NYP -2014 specifies the priority areas such as education, skill development and employment, entrepreneurship, health and healthy lifestyle, sports, promotion of social values, community engagement, participation in politics and governance, youth engagement, inclusion and social justice.
It is pertinent to mention here that the policy will cover the entire country catering the needs of all youth in the age-group of 15-29 years, which constitutes 27.5 per cent of the population according to Census-2011, that is about 33 crore persons and it will replace NYP-2003
Later, the Ministers also visited Shahbad Nagar Bahu Fort to inspect the ongoing development works on Ropeway projects.
DG Youth Services and Sports Naveen Agarwal officers of NYKS and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
