Srinagar, Mar 7: Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said the expulsion of 67 Kashmiri students from a Meerut University on the excuse of their supposedly cheering the victory on Pakistan cricket team in a recent match against India as biased and against the norms of civility.
Mirwaiz said that this is not a case in isolation but reflective of a mindset loaded with bias and hatred towards Kashmiris.
Addressing a large Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar, Mirwaiz said that harassment of Kashmiris whether students, traders or travelers at the hands of police authorities, agencies and communal extremists in length and breadth of India has become a regular affair.
“The Kashmiris have been facing this situation for the last more than six decades. Intolerance towards Kashmiris is being encouraged as a policy and hate Kashmiris is used as political card by unscrupulous politicians to improve their political prospects,” he said.
Mirwaiz castigated the UP Government for “slapping” sedition charges against the Kashmiri students on such a trivial issue.
“Though the charges have been withdrawn now but the slapping of such grave charges at the first instance reflects a lot,” he said.
Mirwaiz also appealed to the business community of Kashmir to invest in the educational sector and establish technical colleges and institution of higher learning in Kashmir so that our dependence on outside institution reduces.
