Srinagar, May 15: Protests erupted in South Kashmir’s Kulgam today afternoon following the recovery of the body of a missing woman from her home.
Sumaira Jan had left her home on last Thursday to see a doctor and had not returned, a police spokesman said.
“Her semi-decomposed body was recovered from a field in Mir Bazar area of the district after police were informed by the locals,” the spokesman said.
“Police rushed to the spot and recovered the female body. The body bore burn marks and was in semi decomposed state,” he said.
Sumaira’s husband Mehboob Ahmad of Babdar in neighbouring Anantnag district, had lodged a complaint with police saying his wife was missing from a local hospital from May 8.
“A team of FSL experts was been deputed to the spot for investigation. The body has been sent for post mortem,” the spokesman said.
Some youth pelted stones at the FSL vehicle at the spot breaking few window panes of the vehicle.
However, police chased them away and carried on with their investigations, he added.
The police are also questioning the woman’s husband and in-laws, he said.
