Mob sets vehicle on fire as boy crushed to death

RAJOURI, July 4: Irate mob set an Eco Sport vehicle on fire after it crushed a boy to death and caused serious injuries to his cousin in Kheora area of Rajouri late last night.
The incident took place when the deceased Danish Malik, a student of class XI, son of Ghulam Qadir, resident of Darhal, was moving on a scooty along with his cousin. The speeding vehicle hit them from the back and dragged about 100 meters ahead. While, one of the boys was pushed away. Danish along with scooty got trapped under the vehicle and kept on dragging along with scooty.
The people chased the vehicle No. JK02AB/3846 and later rounded up the driver who tried, to escape after his vehicle was hit by an electric pole near Salani bridge. He was drunk and was thrashed by the people. The police party led by SHO Chaman Gorka also rushed to the spot where the mob had set fire the vehicle. Angry youth were hell bent to kill the driver on the spot but he was saved by police. The injured boy was shifted to hospital by police and body of Danish was removed to the mortuary of the hospital.
The accused driver was identified as Jai Ram, son of Kamal Singh, resident of Gwalior (MP). He was working with a local Haji. His associate, Surinder Singh, also resident of Gwalior was arrested by police today. A case has been registered against them. Both were drunk. Earlier, driver had hit one Yasir Khan in the same locality and then crushed the scooty riders. Yasir was also hospitalized.
