MoD permits J P Dutta to make 3 sequels to ‘Border’

NEW DELHI, Mar 17:Bollywood film director J P Dutta has been granted  permission by the Defence Ministry to make three films on India’s wars with China and Pakistan.
Dutta has earlier directed films like Border, LOC Kargil, Refugee, Batwara, Hathyar, Yateem, Kshatriya, Umrao Jaan, Aakhri Mughal and Ghulami, among others.
The three war epics, sequel to super successful Border still remembered for its patriotic theme and the legendary song ‘Sandeshe Aate Hain’, will be titled  Border-1, Border-2 and Border-3 with different sub-titles.
Dutta had been making rounds of the Defence Ministry for the past two and a half years to obtain permission for the sequels and finally on Friday after meeting and presentation in South Block he got the Ministry’s nod, sources in the Ministry said.
The three movies will be based on India’s wars in 1962, 1965 and 1971.
The pictures will be shot at western border( Pakistan’s border with Rajasthan and Punjab) and eastern border(China’s border with Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim).
The Ministry through the Army, Navy and Air Force will provide the necessary logistics and equipment required to shoot the films based on wars.
Dutta had made Border in 1997 in which Pakistan’s attack on the Longewala Border in 1971 and India’s befitting response to it was shown.
Dutta told the Ministry that the scripts for the three movies have been penned but the star cast is yet to be finalised.
The shoot for the three movies will begin in the middle of this year. The films will be shot simultaneously.
Each film is budgeted at approximately Rs 65 crore. (UNI)
