Model Academy faces KC in U-14 TT summit clash

JAMMU, May 3: Riding on a splendid performance by Bhavana, Manvi and Manvika, KC Public School thrashed Army Public School (APS) Domana by (3-0) sets in the semifinal to seal berth in the finals, while Model Academy was powered by Ananya and Tasneem to sail into the finals of the Table Tennis Under-14 girls at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Now, the teams will face each other in the summit clash at the same venue tomorrow.
Earlier, in the semifinals, Bhavana of KC outplayed Diksha of APS Domana by (11-3, 11-4), Manvika beat Mansi by (11-2, 11-4), while Manvi and Manvika of KC Public trounced and Mansi of APS Domana by (11-7, 11-6).
In Table Tennis Under-17 girls, Carmel Convent Kunjwani defeated Model Academy by (3-1) in first semifinal, while in another semifinal, KC Public School drubbed Army Public School Nagrota by (3-0) sets and will lock horns with each other in the finals tomorrow.
In the league match played earlier, Army Public School Nagrota defeated KC Gurukul by three sets to two (3-2).
Meanwhile, in a separate function at District Youth Services and Sports Office, Gandhi Nagar, the Director General Youth Services and Sports, Naveen Agarwal felicitated the medal winners of Under-14 and Under-17 Tournaments in the disciplines of badminton, table tennis, chess and carrom.
Speaking on the occasion, Agarwal stressed upon the players to work harder in order to achieve heights, adding that the winners of bronze should aim for silver and the winners of silver for the gold.
He honoured 45 medalists including 25 silver and 20 gold on the occasion.
Welcome address was presented by Tirath Ram, District Youth Services and Sports Office Jammu, while Ved Parkash, Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports presented vote of thanks.
In Carrom Under-14 girls, Government HS Old Satwari defeated MHAC Nagbani, while Government HS Gole Gujral trounced SOS in the semifinals to seal berth in the finals. Earlier, in quarterfinals, MHAC Nagbani beat Carmel Convent Kunjwani, Govt HS Old Satwari prevailed over APS Nagrota, SOS outplayed APS Domana and Government HS Gole Gujral beat Adarsh Niketan, while in Carrom Under-17 quarterfinal battles, Oriental Academy thrashed APS Nagrota, SOS drubbed MHAC Nagbani, Carmel Convent defeated GHS Gole Gujral and Government HSS Jullaka Mohalla got better of GHS Mubarak Mandi.
In chess Under-14 girls semifinals, Avhi Gupta of Heritage School defeated Vidhi Razdan of SOS and Aryushi Kotwal of BSF prevailed over Prakriti of SOS.
Earlier, in quarterfinals, Aryshi of BSF Paloura defeated Sunali of Adarsh Niketan, Avhi Gupta of Heritage School drubbed Rashi of BSF Paloura, Vidhi Razdan of SOS got better of Supriya of APS Nagrota and Prakriti of SOS beat Amisha of Carmel Convent.
In chess Under-17 girls, Akriti Kotwal of BSF defeated Nazia Kousar of MIER, Arushi Sharma of Carmel Convent beat Ria of Oriental Academy, Samiksha Gupta of KC International defeated Sanjana of SOS and Nayandeep of DPS prevailed over Samiksha Gupta of KC International.
The matches were officiated by Harcharan Singh, physical education lecturer, zonal physical education officers Sarita Pandha, Hira Lal and Sher Singh, besides Tarsem Singh, Harcharan Singh, Vijay Kumar, Sanjay Khajuria, Vikram Jamwal and others.
