JAMMU, Apr 30: A first of its kind in Jammu and Kashmir with provision of 24×7 postal services, a modernized Jammu Tawi Railway Station Post Office complex was today dedicated to public by John Samuel under “Project Arrow”.
It is the third Post Office which was modernized this year and dedicated to people after Qazigund and Gulmarg Post Offices.
The modernized Post Office Complex housing Post Office, Speed Post Centre, Mail Business Centre, Mail Processing Centre has been designed on modern lines and provided with best infrastructure to provide postal facilities including the tourists under one roof.
“Jammu Tawi Railway Station being the gateway to the State of Jammu and Kashmir is an ideal place for Department of Post to provide best services to the visitors and acknowledging this, we have upgraded, the Railway Station Post Office Complex which will facilitate the tourists” said Chief Post Master General while speaking in the inaugural function.
John Samuel announced extension of working hours of Post Office in the Complex from existing 0900 hrs to 1700 by three hours and it will now function upto 2000 hrs.
He also informed that 20 Post Offices including New University Campus, Talab Tillo, Vijaypur, Jourian, Lakhanpur, Ramban, Reasi, Banihal and Batote will be modernized soon.
Director Postal Services J&K Jagdeep Gupta also spoke on the occasion and deliberated on the induction of latest technology in postal operations. Director Finance (Postal) J&K, Amit Sharma talked about the revenue growth of J&K by Postal Circle. Sr Supdt. of Post Offices Rattan Lal presented vote of thanks. R N Meena DTM Jammu Railways and SP GRP Jammu Shiv Kumar Sharma were also present on the occasion.
