JAMMU, Oct 27: To mark the culmination of month long campaign of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, J&K State AIDS Prevention and Control Society in collaboration with PG Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, Government Medial College (GMC) and Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, today organized a felicitation function in Police Auditorium, Jammu.
Shakeel Ahmad Beig, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range, was the chief guest while Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Ghanshyam Dev was the guest of honour. Dr Baljeet Pathania, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Mohan Singh, Project Director, JKSACS, RC Puri, Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society Jammu, Dr Tabassum, Deputy Director, JKSACS and Dr Vijay Sawhney, Professor and Head, PG Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, GMC Jammu, were the other dignitaries present.
The felicitation function was organized to acknowledge the contribution of voluntary blood donors, promoters and motivators. These volunteers actively participated in the month long campaign of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day which included poster making competition, symposiums, etc.
The guest of honour, Dr Ghanshyam Dev and Project Director, Dr Mohan Singh, presented mementoes and certificates to the winners and participants.
The day also marked the day long blood donation camp in which Dr Kiran Sharma was the first one to donate blood.
Dr Vijay Sawhney elaborated the various activities organized during a month long programme to celebrate this event.
Dr Mohan Singh lauded the efforts of Voluntary Blood Donors who came in large numbers to donate blood for the people who suffered during the devastating flood witnessed in J&K State. He appreciated Dr Kiran Sharma who donated blood 47th times and termed her as a role model for females.
Dr Baljeet Pathania in his address spoke about the Blood Safety and functioning of Blood Banks and Blood Storage Centres in Jammu Province.
