More organisations demand State holiday on Maharaja’s birthday

JAMMU Sept. 20: More organisations have demanded State holiday on the birthday of former ruler of the State Maharaja Hari Singh falling on September 23.
Young Panthers today asked State Government to declare State holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh on September 23. Addressing a press conference State vice president YP, Partap Singh Jamwal said that if the State Government is observing holiday on the birthday of former Chief Minister, Sheikh Abdullah then why not on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh who gave his life to save the land of J&K from Pakistan and even made a historical decision by acceding to the dominion of India.
Partap Singh said that NPSU has already raised its voice in this regard because as a Maharaja his works are commendable. Young Panthers fully endorsed this demand because it was his contribution J&K became the part of India.
Kashmiri migrants have also fully supported the demand and appealed the Government to declare September 23 as State holiday.
A Joint meeting of KKHMS, KKYS and DKUYU here under the chairmanship of its President Er Ramesh Chander Mahajan and the members of migrants community have unanimously supported and demanded immediate declaration of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday as a Gazetted holiday in the State.
Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) in a meeting at Khour block today demanded that the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh be declared a State holiday. The meeting was presided over by the president of Yuva Rajput Sabha, Rajveer Singh.
Panun Kashmir in its meeting here has also passed a resolution demanding that the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh be declared a State holiday. Speaking on the resolution PK convener, Dr Agnishekhar and Dr Ajay Chrungoo said Kashmiri Pandits highly recognise the great role played by Maharaja Hari Singh for the people of the State. “We all recognize the critical role in ensuring the accession of J&K with the Union of India”. His determination at the time of invasion of J&K in 1947 to foil the attempt of Pakistan to grab the State by force proved critical in ensuing the accession of the State with India”, they added.
They said his rule was a pioneering attempt to create a welfare State with free education and free health services so we all support the demand to declare his birthday as a State holiday.
