page1-8LEH, Aug 25: Expressing serious concern over slow pace of work by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in the border areas of Ladakh, Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju today said that he would take up the issue with Defence and Surface Transport Ministries so that ongoing works get required push.
Talking to media-persons, the MoS Home said, “it is a fact that BRO is executing the work at very slow pace and I have already expressed dissatisfaction both in pace and quality of work especially during the past one decade”, adding “I will bring this to the notice of Defence and Surface Transport Ministries as roads are the lifelines and there cannot be compromise on the same”.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over the existing infrastructure. “I have asked the Deputy Commissioner, Army and ITBP officers to formulate a comprehensive proposal for the development of Ladakh region and to complete the left over projects”, he said.
The MoS Home also made a mention of providing food grains to the villages at the extreme border areas through ITBP. “Two important issues came to my notice during the interaction with the jawans, Army officers and Deputy Commissioner and I think more attention is required to be paid on road and telecom sectors”, he added.
In reply to a question, he assured to open more inner line routes to the tourists to boost the economy of Ladakh. “There shouldn’t be too much restrictions on our own people”, he added.
On being asked about BADP fund, he said, “this is old version but we are coming up with newer version to give better facilities to the people”.
About the Chinese incursions, he said, “ALC is peaceful and regular flag meetings take place. There may be some flare-up but the good thing is that highest level talk are going on. Moreover, our forces are capable to meet all the eventualities”.
