JAMMU : PMO Minister Jitendra Singh today announced that he will adopt two landslide-hit villages in Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency for their all-round development.
The Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office is on a tour to the flood-hit areas of Jammu region to assess the rescue and relief operations.
Singh, who undertook an extensive tour of flood-hit parts in district Reasi, announced that as an elected MP from the Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, he was ready to “adopt” the two flood-ravaged villages Saddal and Seeri of this constituency for reconstruction and rebuilding purposes.
Later, at a review meeting of Reasi district administration, Gen K H Singh, GOC 16 Corps briefed the minister about the rescue work done by the Army, an official statement issued here tonight said.
The minister assured the district authorities that there will be no dearth of relief material from the Centre, and therefore they should not exercise any limitation in providing relief to the affected people.
Responding to the demand for more tents, Singh said, he has already placed an order for 11,000 tents on a demand by Jammu Divisional Commissioner.
He advised the district administration to involve the representatives of various political parties in the distribution exercise, so that there is no occasion for a complaint of any discrimination or favouritism in distribution of material, particularly in far-flung hilly areas of the district.
For this purpose, he informed that BJP has already nominated its teams for each district to assist the district administration and the names of the members of the teams will be provided to each of the Deputy Commissioners.
Singh said the houses and property damaged as a result of flash floods will take some time to be reconstructed, but assured the people that the entire reconstruction and rehabilitation work will be carried out at the Government’s expense.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated his Government’s resolve of unlimited support to revive and reconstruct J&K. (AGENCIES)
