NEW DELHI, July 10:
In a development which has taken the tennis fraternity by surprise, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) today announced that Sania Mirza’s mother Nasima, who has nothing to write home about in the racquet sport at all, would be manager of the national women team for the London Olympics, starting July 27.
‘AITA Executive Committee Meeting held on July 1, decided that Ms Nasima Mirza would be accompanying the women team in Olympics as Manager,’ AITA executive vice president and secretary general Bharat Oza said in a statement.
Tennis has been in the news for the past month for all the wrong reasons.
And just when everybody thought that everything was sorted out, AITA may have landed itself in yet another controversy.
‘She has been travelling with Indian women team for Fed Cup, Asian Games and Olympics. She has travelled to various grand slam venues also and has hands on experience of handling needs of women players.
‘She was Manager of Indian Women Team in the recently held Fed Cup where India won all the ties and also at the Guangzhou Asian Games where India got maximum number of medals,’ Bharat said.
He said with Nasima’s ‘vast experience’ and India having two ladies member in the Olympic team she was considered as the ‘best person’ to be nominated to look after India’s women team consisting of Sania and Rushmi.(UNI)
