JAMMU, Feb 12: Mountaineering Association of J&K will depute 3 sport climbers namely Sonam Sidharth, Anil Kumar and Aman Arora for a three day National Belayers’ Course at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex body for surface adventure sports in the country.
The course is being conducted by IMF from March 23 to 25, 2015.
The aim of the course is to produce trained belayers who can maximize the safety of the climbers during sport climbing training and competitions.
It may be mentioned here that a belayer (the person who handles the rope) is responsible for the safety of the climber during a lead or a speed climbing competition.
During the course, the trainees will be imparted knowledge about harnesses and their proper use besides familiarity with the belaying devices. They shall also learn how to stop all falls in a safe and dynamic manner. Instructions and rules about checking the equipment before the climb and other safety measures shall also be given to the trainees.
“S Bhattacharjee, Chairman Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee will be the Course Co-ordinator, Ganesh Singh of Delhi, Kalyan Dev of Kolkata and Amit Sharma of Delhi, all senior national belayers, will impart practical training to the participants.
The climbers are likely to be sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
