Mountaineering Association organizes special coaching camp for State climbers

JAMMU, Apr 1: A special coaching camp in Sport Climbing organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K for State climbers at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds School complex, Chinore concluded today with a final climbing competition amongst the trainees.
During the 18 days coaching camp the climbers were put to intensive, specialized training every day for 7 hours, in ‘Lead’ as well as ‘Speed’ climbing at the 40ft high fiber glass climbing wall under the expert guidance of reputed professional coaches.
Along with the 20 selected climbers, training was also imparted to another 10 talented climbers from Udhampur, Reasi and Jammu.
The special coaching camp, sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council, was part of a short term measures initiated by the Association to adequately prepare the State team for regaining the North Zone Champions Trophy.
The camp was organized under the direct supervision of Ram Khajuria, general secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K. The national coaches were ably assisted by local senior players Anil Kumar and Shashi Kant.
Shawetica Khajuria, a national sport climbing judge and Sports Officer Jammu Rajan Sharma visited the camp and interacted with the climbers.
The benefit of the coaching camp was reflected in the results of the competition organised on the final day in which all the trainees from sub junior to open categories competed on the same route.
Abhishek Slathia, in Boys category and Ajay Deep and Arun Deep Singh in Sub Junior categories beat their seniors to bag the first three positions respectively.
Similarly, Shilpa Charak in girls’ category and Shivani and Nitya in Sub Junior category secured the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position ahead of senior climbers in the girls and women categories.
Meanwhile, the six winners along with Mrityunjay Sharma have been selected by the Association for an advance coaching camp to be organized at International standard climbing walls at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi.
