JAMMU, Sept 26: MP Legends trounced Delhi Giants by wickets in a thrilling contest and lifted the J&K Masters Inter State Cricket Championship at Jammu University cricket ground, here today.
Sanjay Ranjan Sinha Director of Veterans Cricket Association of India was the chief guest in the valedictory function, Rajinder Bhoomla presided over the function while Arun Gupta President Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu, SSP Haseeb Ul Rehman, SSP RK Bhat and Director Daud Iqbal Baba were the guests of honour.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams alongwith cash award of Rs 75,000 to winning team and Rs 50,000 to the runner team.
Earlier, in the summit clash, Delhi Giants won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 145 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 25 overs. Satish top scored with 40 runs, while Gourav (33) and Vipin (13) runs contributed to the total.
Rajesh was the pick of the bowlers, who took 4 wickets, Rahul took 2 wickets while Dinesh Sharma and Ajay claimed 1 wickets each.
In reply, MP Legends chased the target in 18 overs for the loss of 4 wickets thus won the match by 6 wickets. Dinesh played a good innings of 44 runs, while Sanjay Chobey made 35 runs and Rajesh scored 24 runs.
For the bowling side, Raju took 2 wickets while Sameer and Dharam claimed 1 wicket each for the team.
Rajesh Kanojia was adjudged man of the match in the final match, Ajay Dewidi of MP Legends declared as Best Bowler, Gourav Khurana was declared as Best Batsman whereas Dinesh Sharma of MP Legends was declared as man of the series award for all round performance in the Championship.
In his address, Director Veterans Cricket Association of India lavished praises for the organizers for conducting the event smoothly and successfully and said that the great feedback came from all the participating teams and players regarding the championship which is conducted by the Veterans Cricket J&K in collaboration with J&K Police, Jammu University and VCI.
He further said that on the demand of participating teams he on behalf of VCI announces regular cricket event at Jammu. He also appreciated the sponsors who came forward and join hands with J&K Police to make the event a great success.
The championship in which four teams namely Mumbai Masters, J&K Seniors, Delhi Giants and MP Legends participated was organized by Zonal Police Headquarters Jammu in collaboration with Jammu University, Veterans Cricket J&K and Veterans Cricket Association of India and was supported by Chamber of Commerce and Industries Jammu, Chamber of Traders Federation Jammu, Traders Federation Warehouse Jammu, Horizon Group, Wheelocity Skoda and Mulkhraj Jewellers, BMRC, HH, Mela Ram Jewellers, Vinson and Nidra Foam.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee was Mukesh Singh ADGP Jammu and the executive/organizing committee members of the Championship includes Chandan Kohli SSP Jammu, Ashok Sharma SO to IGP Jammu, RK Bhat SSP, Doud Iqbal Baba Director Physical Education Jammu University, Ranjeet Kalra Member Sports Council, Vivek Suri Media Journalist, Amit Kumar, Avinash Kumar, Ashish Singh, Tushar Gaind and Rajesh Gill Chief Prosecuting Officer and the Organizing Secretary.
The slogan of the league was “Let’s Play and Inspire all to Play” and the main objective of the championship was to involve the Senior Players and officers in cricket activities so that they remain fit and healthy and can share interaction with the officers/players of different departments and states. The matches were officiated by Sudhir Singh, Amit Gupta, Ashok and Amit. The proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by RP Singh.
