NEW DELHI, July 4: In a bid to hunt the local football players of J&K and to give them exposure, J&K State Sports Council in collaboration with J&K Football Association is organizing goodwill football matches between Mohamdan Sports Club (MSC), Calcutta and J&K XI on July 15 and 18 at Srinagar and Leh respectively.
The programme in this regard was finalized today at a high level meeting chaired by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Jitendra Singh, in which Minister for Medical Education, Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports, RS Chib was also present.
During the meeting, it was decided that Mohamdan Sports Club (MSC), Calcutta would play two matches, one each at Srinagar and Leh as a goodwill gesture.
The main objective for organizing these matches is to encourage the local talent in the football game which is the most favourite game in Kashmir valley and for the same Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has already approved a project for laying of Astroturf at TRC Grounds, Srinagar, which will help in providing proper infrastructure to players for their participation in national and international sports events, besides raising the standard of football game as per international standards.
It was also decided that Union Ministries of Home Affairs, Sports, Information and Broadcasting and J&K Government will be monitoring arrangements in close coordination to make the event a grand success.
Among others present were ADGP Security, JKP, Ram Lubhaya, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Vinod Koul, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Daleep Thussu, besides other senior officers of Union Ministries of Home Affairs and Sports and Football Federation of India.
