SRINAGAR, June 18: The 440-kilometre Pedal for Khyber MTB Cycling was flagged off today from Sangarmal Complex here.
The event is organized and sponsored by Khyber Industries under the technical guidance of J&K Sports Development Association (JKSDA).
The event was flagged off jointly by general manager, Khyber Industries, Manzoor Ahmad Mir along with JKSDA president, Bashir Malik, JKSDA senior vice-president, Rauf Ahmad Tramboo, Winter Olympian, Mir Mudasir, JKSDA vice-president, Altaf-ur-Rehman, JKSDA Executive member and owner Ghani Gliders, Tariq Ghani and Khyber Industries marketing manager, Javaid Zaman.
In addition to two cyclists who will be taking the expedition, cyclists from all over the valley had joined them to ride along with them upto Ganderbal.
The two cyclists Umer Nabi and Riyaz Wani who are taking this expedition are well known faces of J&K Sport’s arena. While Riyaz Wani is veteran athlete and cyclist, Umer Nabi is current cycling champion of the State.
JKSDA senior vice-president, Rau Tramboo while speaking on the occasion disclosed that these two riders will on first day ride upto Sonamarg and on second day upto Kargil crossing Zojilla Pass in-between. Then afterwards they will be taking one or two halts.
Meanwhile, Riders completed the required distance of first day from Srinagar to Sonamarg in 3 hour 55 minutes.
