MARGAO, Apr 5: A dying-minute goal by Alfred Jayran enabled Mumbai Football Club to hold former champions Dempo Sports Club to 1-1 draw and split points in the I-League Football Championship match played under floodlight here at Nehru stadium, Fatorda tonight.
The goal for Dempo came through Robert Mendes Silva (Beto) in the extra minute (46th minute) of the first half, while Jayran restored the parity minute before the long whistle to level the score 1-1.
With this drawn match, Dempo increased their points tally to 32 points, while Mumbai Football Club took their tally to 25 points points.
Brazilian midfielder Roberto Mendes da Silva had provided Dempo with a first half lead. The former champions appeared to be cruising to a victory, which would have taken them to the third spot ahead of East Bengal. But Mumbai FC had different ideas and won a point after Jayran scored in the 89th minute to secure a precious draw. (UNI)
