JAMMU, July 19: Muslim Unity Council has expressed serious concern over mounting number of civilian casualities due to blatant use of force by para-military forces during ongoing unrest in Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference here today, members of Muslim Unity Council said that they are deeply pained over rising civilian casualities and appealed the Government to hold reins tightly so that the lives of the innocent youth are not lost.
The members also assured their full support to the people of the Valley and impressed upon the State administration that the human rights violations taking place without any qualms of conscience should be immediately stopped and people allowed to move freely and offer their congregational prayers in the mosques.
The speakers also advised the protesting people of Valley to abstain from the use of violent methods for registering their protests and adopt peaceful methods for achieving their cherished goals. They also stressed upon the need of opening of channels of communication between the State Government and the separatists so that the precious academic years of the students are not lost.
“The tourist season is almost lost but a part of it can still be retrieved if peace returns to the Valley even at this stage. Thus, it is imperative for both the State administration and the separatists to chalk out a strategy to bring out the desired results”, they asserted.
Criticizing alleged ban on print and electronic media in the Valley, the speakers impressed upon the State Government to lift the same as early as possible, as it negates all values of democracy.
Those present on the occasion were Prof Zahoor Ud Din, Mohd Sharif Sartaj, Advocate Jameel Kazmi, Prof Assadullah Wani, Advocate Sarfraz Hameed Rather, Dr Abdul Rashid, Abdul Sattar Rather, Haji Fazal Ahmed, Haji Mushtaq Ahmed and many others.
