JAMMU, Dec 23: Lauding the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in establishing Police Public Schools and imparting quality education to the youth, the Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter today said that police is doing a commendable job in education sector in addition to their professional duties.
The Minister was speaking at the annual day function of Police Public School, Miran Sahib here. Commissioner Secretary Education, Shaleen Kabra was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
The Minister said that the institution has been able to exhibit good academic results and students have also proved their mettle in extra-curricular activities. He said that more Police Public Schools should be opened in various other districts of the State to augment the Government initiative under the education sector.
Naeem reiterated that government is making concerted effort to revamp the education sector and attune it to the fast changing global academic scenario. He also said that focus has been laid on capacity building of the human resource, improving infrastructure and introducing latest technological intervention in the educational institutions.
He said that the Chief Minsters Super-50 free winter tutorial initiative for students as well as medical and engineering aspirants is a pioneering programme where the tutorials will be run by the top faculty drawn from the Education Department and also by the professionals.
The Minister said that reformatory steps taken by the Government in the field of education have been well taken by the people and the awareness about the importance of education can be felt from the demands projected by the parents to improve the facilities and staff position in schools especially in the rural areas.
He appreciated the performance of the students who presented a scintillating cultural programme on the theme “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” and said that more and more sensitization about the issue is vital to bring about a change in social perception about the girl child in the society.
He also appreciated the efforts of Police Organization including the staff in maintaining the standards of education and sports in these schools.
While speaking on the occasion, Director General Police, K Rajendra Kumar highlighted the achievements of the school and said the school made a very humble beginning in the year 1976 at DPL Jammu where it was started as Day Care Centre for the children of serving police personnel which was upgraded in 1994 with the name of Bal Niketan. With ever increasing demand for affordable and quality education for the wards of police personnel, the school was further raised to the level of secondary school level in the year 2004 and upgraded to Sr. Secondary School level in the year 2006-07.
He said that at present the school has 905 students which include 615 wards of serving police personnel, 29 wards of police martyrs and 261 civil wards studying in different classes of PPS Jammu. He also informed that for students hailing from far flung areas, provision of hostel facility is also available at Jammu and Srinagar Schools. Presently, 29 wards of police martyrs are being provided free education and hostel facilities at the school.
Later, the Minister also distributed mementos among the students who excelled in the field of academics, sports and other extracurricular activities.
Dignitaries among others who were present on the occasion included AD’sGP, SP Vaid, Naveen Agarwal, SM Sahai and L Mohanty, Chairperson, PWWA, Mrs. K Vijaya Rajendra, IGPs, HK Lohia, AG Mir, Yoginder Koul, MA Khan, Rajesh Kumar, JP Singh and Danish Rana, DIG Jammu, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, SSP Jammu, Uttam Chand, lady PWWA members and other police and civil officers.
