*Declare open Inter-School Cricket Tournament

JAMMU, Apr 26: Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter and Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta declared open Inter-School Cricket Tournament while inaugurating a beautiful playground namely ‘Sunjuwan Oval’ at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here today.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh, who is also chairman of J&K State Sports Council, Jammu, Smita Sethi, Director Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, ADC Jammu were the guests of honour on the occasion.
Member BCCI and vice chairman J&K State Sports Council, Rajesh Kalra, Principal HSS Sunjuwan, Prem Singh and former Ranji Trophy Player, Rajesh Gill were the special guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naeem lavished praise on the agencies, which took initiative in developing this ground which has become a beautiful cricketing facility to cater to the needs of thousands of sportspersons.
Apart from lauding the efforts of the Army, the Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Education Department for contributing to the development of this ground, Mr Naeem had a special praise for District Administration headed by Simrandeep Singh for leaving no stone unturned in developing this playground. He also batted for the up-gradation of the School.
In his address, Mr Kavinder Gupta said that the State as well as the Central Governments are committed to promote sports in nooks and corners of the country, with a special focus on Jammu and Kashmir, adding that the initiatives and events like this are a step forward in producing international stuff from the State.

Meanwhile, Government Higher Secondary School, Sunjuwan and Boys Higher Secondary School Gandhi Nagar registered convincing victories over their rivals on the opening day today.
In the first match, HSS Sunjuwan defeated SRML HSS by 109 runs, while in another match, BHSS Gandhi Nagar defeated HSS Gole Gujral by 7 wickets.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasun, Madan Mohan and Mukesh Sharma.
